May 24 Summer Orientation Program Announcement

Dear New Students and Families,

On behalf of the Orientation team congratulations on your acceptance to Fordham. You are now #Fordhambound.

Welcome to our community and the family of thinkers, leaders, and learners at Fordham, the Jesuit University of New York. To assist with the transition to college we will be sharing additional resources throughout the summer to make the transition easier and a seamless experience.

We are pleased to invite all incoming undergraduate Rose Hill students and families to attend one of three Summer Orientation Programs this year. SOPs are offered as an optional introduction to college life at our Rose Hill campus, provide useful information for parents and families to help prepare for your first year, and are a great opportunity to meet classmates, returning students, faculty, and staff.

SUMMER ORIENTATION PROGRAMS

Features of the Summer Orientation Program

All three Summer Orientation Programs offer the same sessions and information, though the first SOP (June 24th) has some additional content for transfer students.

All programs will feature an introduction to Fordham University history and mission, our Jesuit heritage and traditions, academic overview presentations from Fordham College at Rose Hill and Gabelli School of Business staff, breakout sessions for new students, and also specific sessions for parents, campus tours, and Q&A panel sessions with current students and administrators.

Summer Orientation Program Dates

  • Monday, June 24 (additional content for transfer students)
  • Monday, July 8
  • Monday, July 15

Transfer Students

  • The Monday June 24 Summer Orientation program will include additional session designed for Fordham College at Rose Hill and Gabelli School of Business transfer students

FIRST YEAR FORMATION PROGRAM

  • Want a head start on a successful first year at Fordham? Looking to connect with staff, student leaders, and classmates and get an inside look at all that your University career has to offer? Be on the lookout for an email with information on how to register for our First Year Formation (FYF) seminar, a weekly one hour course designed to assist with your transition to college life and Fordham University. Held in the Fall semester, these small, discussion-based classes are instructed by experienced staff assisted by student leaders and will help you start your college career off right!
  • FYF focuses on engagement and belonging, fostering in-depth discussion on our University’s mission and Jesuit heritage, introducing participants to leaders, service, and involvement opportunities at Fordham, and will be your guide to your new home here in New York City. We will soon be sending more information about the FYFY program so keep checking your Fordham email.

If you have any questions about Orientation or would like to learn more about the First Year Formation seminar, please email us at [email protected], or call us at 718-817-4339.

We look forward to seeing you at Rose Hill soon!

May 23 APPLICATION DEADLINE CHANGE ANNOUNCEMENT and ILC Application Deadline Reminder

Congratulations on being #FordhamBound! We are writing with an important update regarding  Fordham’s deadline for the housing application, previously communicated in an email you received earlier this month.

In order to get your housing assignment as well as your roommate information to first year students earlier this year, the deadline for completion of the application in the housing portal will be earlier. See details below:

CHANGED DEADLINE FOR HOUSING APPLICATION (EARLIER):

The Housing Application Deadline has been moved to Friday, June 21, 2024.

In order to preserve your guarantee of housing, your application must be complete no later than Friday, June 21. We will do our best to house students completing the application after that date, but cannot guarantee housing due to demand. Please complete your housing application as soon as possible, as we process assignments as they are received on a first-come, first-served basis and some residence halls fill rapidly.

Online Housing Application
In order to become a member of the Residential Life community at Rose Hill, all students must complete the mandatory online housing application. This application is required even if you have already pre-applied to an Integrated Learning Community.

The online housing application will be available to first-year students on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at 4 p.m. EST via the my.fordham.edu portal on your Student tab and closes on Friday, June 21st at 5 p.m. EST.

Reminder: Integrated Learning Community Application

We also would like to remind you that the ILC pre-applications opened on Monday, May 13, 2024 at 4 p.m. EST and closes on Wednesday, May 29, 2024.

The link to apply for one of the Integrated Learning Communities can be found by logging into your my.fordham.edu portal, clicking on your student tab, going to the My Account section, and scrolling down to the student housing section. There you will click on the Student Housing portal which will bring you to the ILC Application.

If you have any questions about the Rose Hill residence halls or Integrated Learning Communities or need assistance accessing any of the forms, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at [email protected] or 718-817-3080. We look forward to welcoming you and the class of 2028 to campus this August.

Sincerely,

Charles Clency

May 13 Email to Students for Housing Selection

Fordham University has a proud 182 year history of approaching learning in the Jesuit Catholic tradition. Learning occurs inside and outside the classroom: our students are challenged to be women and men for others, to unite heart and mind and to develop– through inquiry, community, and practice– lifelong habits of authenticity, conscience, character, and intellect.

For Fordham, life on campus is a part of your education and first-year Rose Hill students choose from a variety of residence halls and experiences, each with its own character and style. All of the communities we create for and with our students share a commitment to participation and engagement - academics balanced with personal growth,  intentionally-designed and led by dedicated professional and undergraduate staff to support our institution’s mission.

WHERE SHOULD I LIVE ON CAMPUS?: ROSE HILL HOUSING OPTIONS

Residence Halls and Integrated Learning Communities
First-year students who choose to live on campus can expect to enjoy a very special experience. Our Rose Hill campus offers a wide variety of residence halls, each with its own unique architecture, ambience, focus, and style.

The Fordham Residential Life online brochure — Discover Your Home — contains detailed information about all available housing locations, programs, and options. Please become familiar with the contents of this brochure as it will help guide your choices.

Traditional Residential Halls
The Rose Hill campus has four traditional residence halls open to first-year students. These offer a more conventional and general experience versus the greater focus of other programs:

  - Alumni Court South
  - Faber Hall
  - Loschert Hall
  - Martyrs' Court LaLande & Goupil
  - Tierney Hall

Integrated Learning Communities
In addition to our traditional halls, first-year students may choose to apply to one of the three “Integrated Learning Communities” (ILCs). These are on-campus residence halls that are intentionally designed to integrate Fordham’s renowned intellectual tradition with the traditional experience-based learning of life in a campus residential community. Each community has its own specific concentration, goals, architecture, amenities, and style; each opens its doors to members of the incoming class who are committed to a particular focus. Take a look here at our three ILCs. Do you feel yourself being called?

- Science Integrated Learning Community (SILC) - Housed in Martyrs' Court Jogues Residential College
- Queen’s Court Residential College -   Housed in Queen's Court
- Loyola Hall Residential College and the Manresa Scholars Program - Housed in Loyola Hall Residential College

Triples
A number of students in the first year class will be housed in  triple rooms depending on demand for housing and in order to ensure that everyone accepted with guaranteed housing is included in our residential community. We will send additional  information in subsequent emails, but please note that triples often turn out to be great experiences for our first year students despite initial concerns and questions.
